SEO case study - Acratech.net
In December of 2008 we took over the site to help out. It was right after the market crashed, and 1/2 of out clients either restructured their companies, or totally went out of business, and of course it had to be the 1/2 that brought in 70% of my company’s income. So with a lot of time on my hands we devised a plan to help get the site to move in the right direction.
First we created a listing of 10 keyword searches that we wanted on the front page. Second we made the site follow our Basic SEO settings, and third we committed to giving the client as much as possible same day service since they had a store to ship products from they needed to have really good customer care. In a good economy we would be making 15% off the sites sales, but during that last year we didn’t quite do that.
After following our own self setup guidelines of both what Google uses, our basic SEO requirements, and with regular tweaks of the pages, we can say that in 8 of the 10 keywords we ended up with them on the front page of Google. In which not even Acratech.net was number 1 at that point.
Keywords and placement as of 01/10
- Ballhead #1
- ballheads #5
- tripod head #3
- Long Lens Head #1
- GP Ballhead #1
- GV2 Ballhead #1
- Ultimate Ballhead #1
- Acratech #1
Their cart selection would not really be considered SEO friendly with urls such as product.php?productid=10&cat=1&page=1 but with customized sitemaps, alt tags, important keyword on pages, and in titles we were able to get to the top of the list where they needed to be.
The Bottom Line
So what does this mean? Overall for 2009 site sales were up by quite a bit, in fact our only client to have grown in sales for the year. Overall the number of Absolute Unique Visitors were also up around 33% from a year before. Even the number of sales we nearly twice as high in 2009 as they were in 2008. The major issue outside of being able to produce graphs from one year to the next, is to be able to point to a physical item on a website of the work that we did. It is a lot of small tweaks, rather than many major modifications. But we are deeply proud to have done the work on the site, and we have some other great goals for the client.
